1144 is a research about distance: The 1144 kilometres between Oslo and Amsterdam, the cultural distance and the language barrier. But even when we avoid all these differences, there is still a personal distance: the struggle to look each other in the eyes, to genuinely see and listen. How can two people bridge the distance, really connect and understand the other? 1144 is a physical and psychosocial research where we use our bodies as the main tool. We don’t want to talk about this, but do it! We will live each other’s lives for a week and perform the Balcony-scene from Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, in several very different approaches as a recurring metaphor throughout the research and performance.
The performance artists Tom Jasper van Huijkelom and Lise Andrea Grimelund-Kjelsen met at a summercourse at Divadlo Archa, Pragues biggest international theater. During the stay they found an in interest in each others work and wanted to develop an artistic research together. Tom lives in Amsterdam and Lise is living in Oslo. This is a project where two artists meets across the boarders. Archa Theater have invited them to a residency in Prague where the collaboration can be explored.
